Description

1. Coral Salmon, Doubled and Finely Veined

A warm coral that sits between peach and salmon, palest at the petal edge and deepest at the throat, with fine veining visible across the surface. The form is fully double with heavily ruffled inner petals, 15–18 cm across, four to six blooms per scape. Against a white or green room it reads as the softest colour in the range; in direct sun the coral warms to a clear salmon-pink.

2. Planting and Position

Plant with a third of the bulb above the compost in a pot three to five centimetres wider than the bulb, using a free-draining mix. Keep it at 20–22°C until the scape appears, then move it to the brightest spot you have. This is a variety that bleaches slightly in very strong direct sun, so a bright but lightly filtered window — or a few feet back from a south-facing pane — keeps the colour at its best.

3. Water, Feed and Room Conditions

Water when the surface dries and let the pot drain completely; never leave it sitting in water. Feed at half strength from the moment buds colour, and continue every fortnight while leaves are growing. Dry indoor air browns the petal edges, so keep the plant clear of radiators and vents, and group it with other plants if the room is very dry.

4. The Foliage Stage and Reblooming

After the last flower, cut the head off at the top of the stem and leave the stem and every leaf in place. The plant then settles into a foliage phase: broad, arching, glossy leaves that stay attractive for months and quietly rebuild the bulb. Stop watering in late summer, let the leaves die back on their own, rest the bulb dry and cool for eight to ten weeks, then start again — that cycle is what produces flowers the following winter.

5. Firm Bulbs, Roots Intact, Packed to Breathe

Each bulb is checked by hand for firmness, an unbroken basal plate, clean scales and no softness at the neck, then graded by circumference. Roots are kept alive and the bulbs are wrapped in ventilated material instead of sealed film, so they arrive dormant rather than sweaty. Plant within a few days, or hold them cool, dark and frost-free for up to a month.
