We sell one thing, and we sell it properly

Flower Bulb Shop is a specialist bulb nursery. Not a garden centre, not a general plant shop — a shop built around bulbs, corms, tubers and the bare-root perennials that belong in the same planting. That focus is the whole point. It means we can tell you which narcissus will naturalise in clay, which tulip will come back for a second year, and which allium will still be standing in July when everything else has gone over.

Where the bulbs come from

Our stock is grown in the sandy coastal soils of the Netherlands and the loam of northern England, by growers we have worked with for years rather than seasons. Bulbs are lifted in early summer, cured, then held at controlled temperature until the week they are due to ship. That is why a hyacinth ordered in September arrives dormant and firm rather than sprouting in the box.

Everything is graded by hand

Before anything goes into a box, it is checked twice: once for size against the grade stated on the listing, and once for condition — firmness, clean necks, no soft spots, no mould. Bulbs that fail are set aside, not quietly packed at the bottom. If you order 15 bulbs, you get 15 bulbs that are worth planting.

Shipped at the right time, not the fastest time

Bulbs are living things on a calendar. We ship spring-flowering bulbs in autumn, when soil temperatures are falling and roots can establish before the ground freezes. Summer-flowering bulbs go out after the last frost risk in your zone. It is slower than shipping everything the day you order, and it is the reason our customers’ bulbs come up.

Honest advice, before and after you buy

If a variety will not suit your zone, your soil or your light, we would rather tell you now than replace it in spring. Ask us. We answer every message ourselves, usually within one business day, and we are just as happy to talk about a three-year-old planting as a new order.

And if something goes wrong

Every order carries a 30-day guarantee. If a bulb fails to grow, arrives damaged, or turns out to be the wrong variety, we replace it or refund it. No argument, no forms to fill in — a photo and an order number is enough.

What we are not

We are not the cheapest, and we do not pretend to be. Cheap bulbs are usually small bulbs, and small bulbs are usually a wasted season. What we sell is the size stated on the page, graded by hand, shipped in the right window, backed by a guarantee. That is the whole offer.
