Description

1. Ivory White, Doubled, with a Green Heart

A white amaryllis is unforgiving — any cream or yellow cast shows immediately — and this one stays clean ivory from the outer petals to the centre. The throat keeps a soft green glow that reads as shadow rather than colour, and the fully double form fills the middle with upright petaloids. Heads are 15–18 cm across with four to six flowers per scape, and the petals have a light texture that catches window light.

2. Planting for a Clean, Upright Stem

Plant shallow, with the shoulder of the bulb clear of the compost, in a pot three to five centimetres wider than the bulb. White varieties show every splash of compost on the petals, so top-dress with clean grit or moss after planting and water from below where possible. Keep the pot at 20–22°C until the scape shows, then move it somewhere slightly cooler to slow the opening and hold the flowers longer.

3. Light, Humidity and Watering

Bright, direct winter light keeps the stem stocky; a shaded position gives you a pale, leggy plant that needs staking to look decent. Water when the surface dries and never let the pot stand in a saucer of water. Indoors, central heating dries the air enough to brown the petal edges, so keep the pot away from radiators and hot air vents. Feed at half strength from bud stage through the life of the leaves.

4. The Plant After the Flowers Go

Deadhead at the top of the stem, keep the stem and leaves, and the plant turns into a handsome foliage subject: broad, arching, deep green leaves that stay presentable for months. That is the stage when the bulb rebuilds, and a white amaryllis that is allowed to keep its leaves will flower again more reliably than one that is cut back and forced. Reduce water in late summer, rest the bulb dry, then restart in autumn.

5. Hand-Graded Flowering-Size Bulbs

Only bulbs of flowering circumference are packed, each one checked for firmness, clean scales and an intact base. Bulbs are shipped dormant with roots attached and wrapped in breathable material. If you are buying for a wedding or a specific date, plant eight to ten weeks ahead and keep the pots cool once buds show — that is the simplest way to hold a white amaryllis on schedule.
